Paysages et monuments
Vue de l’exposition à la galerie Graff, 2015

Jocelyn Jean was born in Valleyfield (Quebec) in 1947 but spent a major part of his life in New-Brunswick and Montreal. His work was showcased in twelve solo exhibitions at galerie Graff and several more of the gallery’s group events in Canada and Europe. Along with his artistic practice, he has taught in the École des arts visuels et médiatiques at the Université du Québec à Montréal from 1988 to 2011. He completed his bachelors degree in arts at UQAM in 1972; as soon as 1975, his work was shown at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal as part of the exhibition Processus 75, and again in 1977 in a group show featuring three other promising artists of his generation: Luc Béland, Lucio de Heusch and Chritian Kiopini. As exhibitions went by his paintings were quickly acquired by a number of institutions, corporations and private collectors. His latest group exhibitions included Matter of abstraction, at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, and Off the grid ; Abstraction Art in New-Brunswick at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton, New-Brunswick. Jocelyn Jean passed away in Montreal, in January 2015.
