Artist talk
Leslie Mutchler’s multi-disciplinary installations are experiments in faux-functionality and imperfect design. Utilizing the material language of our everyday, she engages with issues of hand(craft), the physicality of labor, sustainability, and commodity. Often exploring the conceptual notion of building a “factory” and the IKEA Effect (ie. increase of valuation of self-made products), she is notably interested in the ways in which a community limited to specific materials can participate in the construction and curation of objects in both real and virtual installations, thus exposing the repetitive and tedious nature of trend. The presentation will take place at Atelier Graff on Thursday, May 2nd, from 6 pm to 8 pm (in English, free admission).

Workshop: LL2L (Labor Leads to Love)
This creative workshop will focus on high-quantity substrate preparation and print production for the collaborative installation “TrendFACTORY: Montreal”, hosted by ARPRIM from May 9 to 24, 2013. Leslie Mutchler invites artists to lend their expertise and aesthetic judgement in the making of the exhibition. Participants should bring along abstract imagery from their own practice, to be layered with others’ and exposed on several silkscreens. Approximately 400 chipboards have alreday been printed, cut, and scored by students from the School of Art and Design at Texas State University (San Marcos, TX); the LL2L group will focus on responding to this work through printing on the other side. Participants will also explore several methods for transforming flat substrates into three-dimensional objects.

Neing a professional or emerging artist + having basic knowledge of screen printing
