Alisa Arsenault, "Playing around with images", 2014

Alisa Arsenault is from New Brunswick. She studied printmaking and photography at the Université de Moncton and graduated in 2013. Since her graduation, she participated in several group exhibitions including Somewheres (2014) at Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown (P.E.I.) and Acadie Mythique (2014), a travelling exhibition curated by Harlan Johnson. She is also an active member of Atelier d’estampe Imago.

Through the specificity of her own ancestral stories, Alisa’s work deals with universal issues, negotiating and renegotiating the inherited narrative. Her exploration of these ever-changing stories emphasizes their distance from the lived reality. Through video, sound and installation, she explores the ephemeral and malleable construction of the chronicled reality.

During her residency at Atelier Graff, Alisa will work on a self-portrait inspired by the documentation of a historic event, which occurred on the day of her birth. This event will be told within her personal mythology, provoking a dialogue on a synchronicity of events and their effect on self-perception and on the perception of others.

This exchange with Imago will also enable Ilana Pichon, from Atelier Graff, to fulfill a residency in Moncton in March 2015. This project has been made possible thanks to funding from the Secretariat for Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs, Government of Quebec, under the financial support programs for Canadian Francophonie.
