This initiative will allow one of the first artist-run centres in Canada, who is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary, to team up with a dynamic new centre who was recently awarded the Caisse de la Culture’s Prix de la relève for starting up a new production space dedicated to photography and printmaking.
For us, art begins in the studio. We are eager to build a collective space where production and exploration are free from constraints, an open and inclusive environment conducive to the exchange of knowledge and experience.
The centre will open in the fall of 2016, on 3910 Sainte-Catherine Street East (Atelier créatifs Montréal) in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. Until the much-awaited opening celebrations, le Cabinet will continue operating at its current address, in the Chat des artistes building.
Founded in 1966, Atelier Graff is a contemporary art centre dedicated to research and creation in printmaking. It offers affordable workspaces and expert advice in silkscreen printing, digital printing, lithography, as well as intaglio and relief engraving.
Since 2012, le Cabinet has been offering a research and production space in photography, with the aim of strengthening and stimulating creation in contemporary art. Its members have access to museum-grade digital equipment, as well as an array of comprehensive services tailored to each’s needs.
