Atelier Graff rencontre... Mitch Mitchell

Artist talk
March 11, 2015 (6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.)
> Atelier Graff

© Mitch Mitchell, BERTH, 2012Mitch Mitchell will be the guest speaker of the next Atelier Graff rencontre… ; he will do a presentation in English at Atelier Graff, on his recent works and artistic research in the practice of printmaking.

Originally from the state of Illinois, Mitch Mitchell moved to Canada in the mid-2000, when he began a MA in Printmaking at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He presently teaches in Studio Arts at Concordia University ; a practicing artist as well as a theorist, his research focuses mostly on installation.

Mitch Mitchell works in a variety of mediums. He masters the printmaking techniques – etching, photoetching, silkscreen – and uses them to create installations and large scale works as well. He manipulates paper, tears it, folds it and mixes it with other materials, like asphalt, flour and baby powder. Mitchell’s work explores in a playful and serious manner, the relationships man has with nature, and his manipulation of landscape and the consequences of these interventions.

Mitchell has presented his work in several galleries and artists’ centres across Canada. He has participated in the Douro Biennial in Portugal (in 2010 and 2012) and in the exhibition of Canadian Contemporary Prints at the Chongqing Art Museum in China. His works will be presented at the next Papier Art Fair in Spring 2015.
