“I usually introduce myself as a post-conceptual artist. In addition to its brevity, the formula has the advantage of referring to an area that isn’t clearly defined, but of which almost everyone has an idea. It is a little like saying you are a painter or a writer. This definition also has the merit of stating an indubitable historical position: I am an artist after conceptual art. Each in their own way, my most recent projects all question the artist’s involvement in his world.” At Atelier Graff, Clément of Gaulejac will discuss the illustrated autobiography Grande École, the series of posters Motifs raisonnables, and the long-term installation project Téléphone Arabe, among others. The presentation will take place on Thursday, February 28 at 6 pm, in French (free admission).

Clément de Gaulejac has lived and worked in Montreal for a decade. Having been a press cartoonist, he is currently completing a PhD in the Art Studies and Practices program at UQAM. His work has been shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions, both in Canada and abroad, including Feng Zikai Museum (Shanghai, 2012), OEil de Poisson (Quebec, 2011), Occurrence (Montreal, 2010), Charles S. Scott Gallery (Vancouver, 2006), and Saw Gallery (Ottawa, 2006). He has notably published “Grande École” (2012) and “Le Livre noir de l’art conceptual” (2011) with Le Quartanier editions.
