Last September, Atelier Graff launched a call for proposals inviting professional artists and collectives to explore public art for the 6th edition of S’exposer aux intempéries. The centre is proud to announce the selection of Eva Mayer’s project. An artwork produced during her creative residency at Atelier Graff will be displayed on its building façade, at 963, Rachel East in Montreal, from May to October 2013.

Eva Mayer questions the frontier between balance and imbalance, a transient state she links with the “perils” and necessary adaptation of any immigration process. Her practice addresses notions of belonging, difference (the loneliness it brings), and wandering for self-knowledge. “I want to create a photographic self-portrait in the urban space.“ Please note that this project is conditional on Atelier Graff obtaining necessary funding. To be continued next spring

Born in Zell am See (Austria) in 1975, Eva Mayer attended the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg (Austria) and the University of Tennessee (Knoxville, USA). After an artist residency at Sagamie (Alma, 2009), she left Paris – where she lived for a decade – and settled down in Quebec as of April 2011. Eva Mayer now lives and works in Montreal.
