Jocelyne Thibault
Residency - February to May 2015
"S’exposer aux intempéries"

Last October, Atelier Graff launched a call for proposals inviting professional artists and collectives to explore public art for the 8th edition of S’exposer aux intempéries. The centre is proud to announce the selection of Jocelyne Thibault’s project – La fonte des popsicles (Melting popsicles). An artwork produced during her creative residency at Atelier Graff will be displayed on the buildings’ façade, at 963, Rachel Street East in Montreal, from May 2015 to April 2016..

Thibault’s artistic approach is process-based and is rooted in the everyday life. For S’exposer aux intempéries she revisits her family photo archives and exploits the aesthetics of old fairgrounds. The piece will evoke fun, camaraderie and nostalgia; elements that truly highlight the fiftieth anniversary of Atelier Graff, to be held in 2016.

Jocelyne Thibault is a multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, installation and print media. She studied visual arts at Université du Québec à Montréal and has been an active member of Atelier Graff since 2013. Thibault will take part in the exhibition Rethinking the edition, that will be taking place at the Grande Bibliothèque (BAnQ) in 2016. Her work has been presented at Diagonale (Montréal) and at Centre d’art de Sainte-Rose (Laval). She lives and works in Laval, Québec.

Since its beginning the project S’exposer aux intempéries is funded by Cirque du Soleil through its support program for emerging artists.
