Rethink the Edition : call for artists

Pierre Ayot et cie, Graff Dinner, 1978

The project Rethinking the Edition will be one of the activities organized by Atelier Graff for its 50th anniversary. Professional artists (members and non-members) are invited to submit a proposal for this project. Eight artists will be selected to create one artwork each that rethinks our relationship to today’s publications by artists ; the artworks will be inspired by a historical dialogue with artists’ books from the collection of the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) that have been printed at Atelier Graff.

The artworks created through this project will be exhibited (location to be confirmed) and activities of mediation with the public will be organized.

Commitment of participating artists
Selected artists will be asked to participate actively in every step of the process. They will be invited to create their works using the resources of Atelier Graff. Several meetings have been planned with the curators Geneviève Bédard and Andrée-Anne Dupuis Bourret – at the BAnQ Conservation Center – to initiate the project. Group meetings will also be organized to discuss the realization of the artworks ; production time will be from Spring 2014 to Spring 2015. The exhibition will be held in 2016.

Commitment of Atelier Graff

  • Artist fee for production and exhibition will depend on funding (to be confirmed).
  • Free studio rental – space and facilities – for 12 consecutive months ($1 000 value).
  • Technical support : 10 to 30 hours ($ 1 050 value).

Submission requirements

  • Letter of intent (1 page) demonstrating interest in the project as well as competencies, regarding techniques and/or statement, to create the artwork described in the proposal.
  • Curriculum Vitae (max. 2 pages)
  • 10 digital images in JPG format
  • List of works
  • Return stamped envelope (optional)

Submission deadline : December 2, 2013 at 5 p.m.
Proposals can be mailed (attested by postmark) or dropped off at our offices.

Please note that the project is conditional in the obtaining of funding by Atelier Graff.
