"Rethinking the edition", here we go !!!

In 2016, Atelier Graff will celebrate its 50th anniversary by presenting a special program to mark this historic passage.

In recognition of this, the commissioners Geneviève Bédard and Andrée-Anne Dupuis Bourret have been invited to work on a creative project to which there will be two components, circulation and mediation. The objective is to rethink the function and materiality of the artist book as an experimental space for creation and a vehicle for communication.

Eight artists have been invited to take part in this creative reflection. Guillaume Brisson-Darveau, Thomas Corriveau, Julie Doucet, Mathieu Jacques, Pascaline Knight, Leyla Majeri, Jocelyne Thibault and Étienne Tremblay-Tardif are taking it upon themselves to rethink the form and idea of this paper object. In light of this, Atelier Graff, actor and witness to a half century of creativity and community is offering them the opportunity to work in residence in Graff’s studios for a whole year. A promising collaboration with the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) will provide an opportunity to present the results of this research in autumn of 2016, with an exhibition that will establish a dialogue between contemporary work, and books pulled out from the library’s collection that were printed at Graff.

Over the next few months the participating artists will be invited to present their ideas on their works in progress. Stay tuned !
