Alain Laframboise

[ 1947 - 2016 ]

Alain Laframboise was born in Saint-Benoît-des-Deux-Montagnes in 1947. He earned a doctorate in philosophy and aesthetics in Paris X-Nanterre in 1980. He has taught art history and theory at the University of Montreal since 1976. He has exhibited his work from 1983 and has been represented by Galerie GRAFF since 1985. His paintings can be found in several public collections including the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, and The Canada Council Art Bank in addition to being shown in individual and group exhibitions across Canada and Europe. Alain Laframboise’s body of work began by constructing "scenarios" within boxes of various sizes -three dimensional collages recalling, from Poussin to Duchamps, through to Cornell, representational forms. He has, since 1989, alternated between boxes and photography. His photographs offer perspectives and compositions which only they can disclose and reveal to the viewer.
