Véronique Savard

Véronique Savard’s practice revolves around computer-mediated written communications (instant messaging, email, spam, social media’s specific language, etc.) and what these reveal about the world, and its social and perceptive structures. More specifically, she is interested in the tension generated when transcribing some of these online solicitations in the space of her paintings. Through these large format works, Savard brings to our attention some of the short-eye-catching or shocking expressions that are pervasive in the online world. These paintings examine how the Internet triggers various projective mechanisms inherent to the current socio-economic system.

Véronique Savard is teaching (part-time) at the Université du Québec à Montréal where she is currently completing a Ph.D in Art Studies and Practices in which she explores the modifications brought about by the digital age on written and pictorial practices. In addition to solo exhibitions presented in many art galleries, artist-run centres, Maisons de la culture and National Exhibition Centre, Véronique Savard also took part in several group exhibitions and international art fairs Her paintings are part of the collection of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, as well as several corporate and private collections. In 2012, she was also invited by the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal to present her work as part of SéminArts. Véronique Savard was the first recipient of the prestigious Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Fellowship in Contemporary Art for 2010 to 2012. She was also recently recipient of the PhD Figura grant, the Research Center on Text and the Imaginary (2014-2015). Véronique Savard lives and works in Montréal where she is represented by the Galerie Graff.
